Rapping up

Congratulations RAP Interns on all your hard work!

Check out this RAP rap, written by Danaisha with support from Taylor and Roger, and read some final thoughts from the interns' last day below.

How would you describe your lab experience to a prospective mentor?
In my lab you are surrounded by a lot of smart and down to earth people. There are days you are assigned a lot of things and busy, but there are also other days the lab is slow. You just need to have an open personality and ask if you can shadow anyone and you’ll be fine. I enjoyed my time and I know the next intern will as well.  - M
I thought that the department where I was assigned was fun because we went out of the building and to peoples homes. Also, I learned that a lab might not always be a “lab,” it can be in an office. The people are always helpful and you can be yourself and not be criticized. The experience is great and it will help you in other intern/job opportunities because it exposes you to different environments!!! - X
My lab experience was about doing experiments and learning how a lot of different equipment. Since I was so interested in cancer, the lab I worked felt like heaven. You will gain so much if you push yourself to learn more and more enthusiastic about things that are going on in your lab. - HG
It was a very wonderful experience, I would recommended it. Definitely be open to whichever department you are in. There's always something new to learn. - R
I would tell them that at first, you may be nervous, but after being yourself, you will mesh well with the other interns (I did anyway!). Also, they should just be open to learning new things and ask many questions. You get a lot of independence, but a lot of guidance at the same time. You will make great connections, make new friends, and you will feel really good about yourself!  - T
I got to meet new people, make new friends, and experience what other peers my age don't get a chance to do. I learned to stay focused and do your job to the best of your ability. "Dress for the job you want not the job you have." - D

What was your relationship like with your mentor?
GREAT!!! I could always laugh and talk to them. I actually had four mentors, so we had our own little family! I’m really going to miss those guys, but I’m excited to come back for another internship in the winter they are allowing. - M
I loved being with my mentor because she helped me with my work but she also took time to talk to me about school and about life. She was very supportive and she helped us when we needed to present and stayed with us until 7 p.m. which was nice because it showed she cared for what we did.  - X
What was your favorite field trip?
My favorite field trip was the Harvard trip. I liked all of the information that we received on the college process, it was very helpful for me. I also liked exploring Harvard Square with the other interns. - T
My favorite field trip was the pathology trip. - D
I liked going to Harvard’s Natural History Museum because we got to walk around and explore what interested us. - X
What did you learn going through the process of creating the recognition ceremony presentation?
It was kind of stressful, but I liked the rap and poem. I learned it is great to be organized and patient. My skills improved. - M
What I enjoyed from the ceremony is that we got up and spoke several times so it made it easy to go up when it was someone’s turn and to present. I also like the intro of the ceremony, because it allowed us to relax, be ourselves, and to be silly. - X
It was enjoyable that we were able to communicate each other toward common goal. Working things out together and creating funny things were priceless. - HG
I learned that practice is key (Onawa's lesson). I learned that the practice of making it very realistic before the actual thing is helpful (Jori's lesson). And Jori’s activities we did build up confidence and relieve stress. - R
I liked the yoga because I felt more relaxed after doing it. I learned how to relax before making big presentations. - T
I enjoyed being able to present what I have learned over the summer so everyone can see. - D
Final thoughts?
I love you guys and we better keep in touch! - M
I will miss you! - HG
Be willing to learn and do yoga! Lol. Be open. - R

I'm going to miss everyone so so so so much! It went by so fast and I'm going to keep in touch with everyone!! - T
