This week at HSPH, I have learned more in-depth about the cellular build-up of tuberculosis as well as DNA base pair sequencing while in the laboratory. I have also learned how to do some of the miscellaneous stuff such as dumping out biohazardous materials the lab will no longer keep to the dumpster and cleaning out used materials to prevent contamination. My lab partner and I were also quizzed this week on some of the basic concepts of tuberculosis and DNA by our lab insructor. Generally, this week in the lab I have been learning how to handle lab equipment and more on bacteria and DNA relating to tuberculosis which is our main study.
This week, I have gotten a chance to interact more with the collective group of this year's summer interns of RAP which really helped me in understanding them more and the type of work they do in their different departments. This opportunity was even more rewarding in that it allowed me to interact with my lab partner more and hear her perspective on our work. This aspect of my experiences this week was rewarding because my lab partner and I seldom have such conversations while working in the lab.
In all, this week has been rewarding so far in that I have acquired new knowledge on laboratory-useful concepts and my fellow interns.
